Another something...

..a lot of right politicians here in the #Netherlands keep saying "no more immigrants in the #NL and they should be helped in the area where they're from"

This is such a bullshit excuse! The NL is a super rich country that should absolutely contribute in housing immigrants

And hell yes I understand there's a house shortage, even personal but that's a whole other issue that they keep running away from

Borders.. Such a 1800's concept nkoFacepalm2

@stux The furthest right wing in Norway says the same, but they have absolutely no intention of "helping them we're they're from" either because they want to cut there too.

It's just end-to-end bullshit.

It's the ideology/terminology of the #bigot.

"Perfect is the enemy of good."

@stux you speak English, not Dutch, you will see why the borders are needed when millions of people who never spoke Dutch will come to take your land, by force. They will say borders are irrelevant. They will speak Russian.

Personally I find it absurd there are countries, people or whatever that can say where I can and cannot go on this planet we all share

If it where up to me I go wherever I want, whenever I want

And this should be for every single human a basic right

@stux

I've flown across a lot of national borders, and a lot of time it wasn't cloudy and I could see the ground.

Aside from the occasional natural feature, like a river, I never saw anything to demarcate one country from the next.

@stux You have two conflicting demands. One is "I should be able to go wherever I want" and the other is "wherever I decide to go, the people there have the duty to feed, house, and care for me."

Those two demands are contradictory, choose one. It is true that international travel was freer before World War 1. But there was no welfare beyond religious charity.

You can either belong to a tribe, where people look after each other, or you can be mobile and self-sufficient. You cannot have both.

@stux I was thinking about this recently.

Say there was a new country, called Cascadia. And entering at the borders was completely unrestricted. You couldn't own land in Cascadia or have a job in Cascadia without citizenship, because they needed taxes from workers and land owners. But if you signed up for the National Guard, you could get provisional citizenship that converted to permanent at 2 years.

If you love your country enough to defend it, even as a dishwasher, it is yours.

@stux If it was about conservation, I’d be ok with “no, you can’t go there”, but as far as already-human-infested parts of the world, IMO the only restrictions should be about public/population health, not nimby political entities.

I would just amend your go wherever you want whenever you want with the condition that it has to be with the consent of the people already living there - but locally, not politicos hundreds of miles away trying to game each other.

@stux @kallistomind keep in mind, that is strictly because all the land was once a public resources for grazing and foraging, then was privatized.

You can't farm without private land, to make that worked resource pay off for the people who put the labor into improving its yield. But...

@stux When one says things like this, my experience is that people will jump up from all over to yell: "But then all the people in bad places would move to the good places, including here, and use up our resources!".

As if that wasn't the whole fucking point.
