Showing ID online isn't the same as showing it to a human offline.

Each time we provide our official ID or face scan online, this data risks getting leaked, stolen, or accessed by corporations and governments alike, to track our online activities and attach it to our identities.

Privacy Guides supports @fight's campaign against online ID checks.

Add your voice to the protest! 🗣️ ✊

@privacyguides @fight

I dropped Facebook and won't use it.

I dropped reddit and won't use it.

I dropped twitter and won't use it.

These motherfuckers don't seem to get it. Their website, no matter how popular and important they think it is, is one of billions. It's not like I have no where to go if a site does something stupid like demanding I surrender my personal info.

@privacyguides @fight there is a proposal by @epicenter_works (a digital rights organization from Austria) that drafts a method to protect minors on the Internet. You might consider to support / collaborate with them: https://chaos.social/@epicenter_works/115620841822991829

@privacyguides @fight The internet was better anonymous. Admittedly, an anonymous internet allowed shitty people to do shitty things, but look at the internet today. Shitty people doing shitty things. Now look at the shitty people doing the panopticon internet. You really think they’re gonna make it better? Give me a break…

@privacyguides @fight I agree with this in spirit I think, but trying to remember if I have shown my ID in the real world recently without it also needing to be scanned and verified or logged by a computer somehow

@aeischeid I’ll just say I always use a passport card for this, specifically because it doesn’t have a barcode normal systems can read, and it has never caused a problem! -jonah

Age Verification is a Privacy Nightmare...

Age verification laws and propositions forcing platforms to restrict content accessed by children and teens have been multiplying in recent years. The problem is, implementing such measures necessarily requires identifying each user accessing this content, one way or another.
