MEDIA LITERACY REMINDER: The Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail editorial pages exhibit a human version of what in AI is termed "model collapse"—if you feed a language model on its own output, future output rapidly deteriorates into self-parody.

The owners of the right-wing press read their own media and it rotted their brains.

@cstross whereas conventional wisdom is that the WSJ editorial page doesn't read the WSJ front page at all; just disconnected from reality

Nixon, for all his failings, seemed to know he was lying to people.

LLMs are the epitome of decadence in every sense of the word.
They are a product of moral decline, but also are a decaying process itself. It takes coherent authenticity and humanity and turns it into vomit which it goes back to eat up and vomit up over and over. It is all decay & death, from its needs to its output.

@cstross I'm sure the right wing press lords follow the first rule of Scarface: never sample the merchandise.

@cstross That is definitely a way of looking at it. High on their own supply as the old saying goes.

@cstross In five minutes, the second message to reply with "Nothing can survive by eating only what it excretes"

The first one was @glynmoody's "Latest #ChatGPT model uses Elon Musk’s #Grokipedia as source"

I actually never realized people were eating their own dung, too! I thought only computers were that stupid.
