@eff that reminds me of the days where people were using windows 7 with no encryption and thought that their data was safe If their laptop was stolen because there is a user password lol. Local attacks are among the easiest things to do, always keep drives encrypted. ALWAYS !!!

Worth adding here that the vast majority, if not all, Linux distributions have built in storage encryption, will run very well on older hardware (even some old Chromebooks) and the entire operating system comes to the user free of cost and free of surveillance.
