Yeah, this was always the rub, wasn’t it? It’s a very nerdy concept, built for and used by nerds, so of course the technical aspects appeal to people who know how to build this stuff. Making it usable and appealing for everyone is an entirely different paradigm of thought.

I think taking a hyper-local approach is incredibly novel, and being able to serve a regional area is a cool approach to building communities on the network.
I love the idea of local governments having Fedi accounts. It sounds silly, but the idea of a bunch of local departments being able to get their messages out can actually be really useful. Think about how many municipal accounts post updates on Twitter to keep people informed about local events or developments.
