I really hope that the #ATProto way of decoupling identity from a host catches on elsewhere, even if it's just an optional thing people can do (like how you can get a domain for something, or host it directly on an IP). Self-hosting is great, but there are a lot of things that I'd like to explicitly not self-host but rather get hosting from a coop for (Mastodon, Forgejo, Nextcloud). Once you get used to being able to switch providers without losing your @ it's hard to go back!
