Love seeing the pictures of the #NoKings crowds. What would make me even happier is to know that each of those people is plugged into activist communities that will keep on building power and relationships every day, not just today. The people I've met through #FreeDC are the true silver lining of the dark cloud that is this Trump administration. It's not a sacrifice to spend my time with them - I enjoy it. I want that same feeling of purpose and connection for everyone who protested today.

The downside of taking a community-building approach to movement-building and focusing on having real meaningful relationships with your fellow activists and neighbors is that real meaningful relationships sometimes have conflict, and conflict is stressful to work through. Ask me how I know ;)
Just wanted to share as I have been very pro-community-as-activism on here. It's not all joy and fun and feelings of belonging. I think the hard parts are worth it but I understand if others don't.
@shauna Boston's event had about 20 tents with people representing different groups that people could plug into ranging from DSA and Progressive Mass, folks organizing on single issues like immigrant rights, demilitarization or pro-Palestine, plusc trade groups like the teacher's unions and a pro science group.
I love this! There were tons of Free DC tents and for other organizations in DC at ours...I hope lots of rallies used this model
@shauna its happening. these conversations are happening about how to turn the one off momentum into something more. its slow but the knock on effects of these large events are huge because they get people psychologically ready to offer resistance in their day to day lives, and do the organizing that that takes.
@shauna I love thisss! I’ve been finding hard to make time outside of work for things, but this is meaningful community work. Thank you for the encouragement!

totally understand re: scheduling. FYI because some people don't realize this - when something's listed as say "ward 4 orientation" it doesn't mean it's limited to ppl in ward 4, just that it's hosted there. you can go to any orientation.
lmk once you're oriented and i can help onboard you. and yes let's get coffee or something! (once you've been to orientation, there's a free dc coworking chat were we meet up at local coffee shops to cowork together)
