If they truly cared about the children,
they would be much more concerned about AI everywhere than end-to-end encryption everywhere.

Encryption actually protects the children.
AI harms them, and us.

I've talked to some of these protect the children people.

They were concerned about "Chinese TikTok spreading communism", but had no real concerns of YouTube and Instagram feeding Andrew Tate or US flavor propoganda to their kids.

@Em0nM4stodon Everybody is worse off except the bad guys. And it's pure laziness, power grabbing, mass surveillance. They are still pretending they won't immediately lose the data at every turn.

Get a warrant.

@Em0nM4stodon

Yeah, like stuff like this this channel is covering. The criminal abuse of people’s rights either to privacy or who have suffered false accusation by police who blindly and credulously follow what AI tells them. The CEO of flock should be arrested and tried for criminal fraud, false imprisonment, and human trafficking at this rate

If they really cared about protecting anyone, they would be going after the #perpetrators of the stuff, instead they restrict the innocent.

Can they not see that this is just as harmful?
Why not lock the kids up in a dark room?
Won’t they be safer in there?

Everything our #ukgovernment is involved with seems to turn out to be a negative, Itty-bitty, nitpicking, half considered non-solution.

@Em0nM4stodon I do maintain LLMs/diffusion/etc have their uses, but absolutely none of those uses are what are being pushed on us, nor what CEOs/etc are drooling over. (Which is why this absolutely will pop sooner or later because they will NEVER succeed in shoehorning it into the things they're so absolutely determined to do.)

Indeed, services like ChatGPT have actively aided in children suicide... That's a literal direct death result from the service.

I absolutely agree with the sentiment, but would be interested in the precise argument on how encryption protects children (expressed in a tight nutshell). My intuition agreeing with you isn't enough :)

@Tuuktuuk Because personal information about children must be considered extremely sensitive and protected at the highest standard.

And the only way to do this is with solid and well-implemented end-to-end encryption.

@Em0nM4stodon @Tuuktuuk And platform owner knowing that a user is a child endangers them by risking exposing that information to attackers and to insider threats. The only solution is to treat personal information on all users as if they might be children, and not possess or have capability to access anything beyond what's absolutely needed.

@dalias @Em0nM4stodon @Tuuktuuk yes. if some type of data processing is dangerous to do to children, it's dangerous to do to anybody and should be forbidden for all ages.

of course, the real policy objective with this stuff is censorship, so, there's that.
