Congress is moving toward a nationwide age-verification mandate, but instead of verifying age on every website or app, lawmakers want to make app stores do it.

The App Store Accountability Act would require Apple and Google to confirm users’ ages and pass that info to every app they download. The model has already been adopted in several states and just won backing from Pinterest, Meta, Snap, and X.
