+1 for Mirlo. They’re probably the leader in this space.

I’ve been to the subvert site. It seems promising, but they hadn’t launched any tech the last I looked. Do you know what their status is?

@benpate @FediPunkGuide @mirlo hey, I do! They launched their Alpha platform with a handful of curated artists to all their members (myself included) in November and it's awesome ! Members will be able to upload their music soon. They'll be launching a public road map on the very near future, so stay tuned! I'll try to remember to update this thread when the roadmap is out !

Gotcha. And, this seems like a smart move on their part. Release it slow and controlled :)

New technology is alway more shaky than we'd like it to be. No matter how much I tested, I was sure Bandwagon would break when real people used it. So I made a waitlist, and set up the first ~20 profiles by myself... and fixed an embarrassing number of bugs in the process :)

I'll look forward to seeing more from Subvert. It's always been a promising idea!

"Federate" is a complicated word...

Bandwagon works with ActivityPub, so it Federates with Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, etc.

I know @Mirlo is working on implementing ActivityPub and I'll let them say where they are in the process. It's an enormous job, so send them lots of love.

Separately, though, we have talked about other ways we can work together. So, not "federating" via AP, but other protocols that help connect us into a more cohesive indie platform :)

@FediPunkGuide @benpate Bandwagon.fm looks like more of a replacement for SoundCloud than a replacement for Bandcamp.

Bandcamp is a store front like Spotify or ITunes. Unlike Spotify or ITunes, more of the revenue goes to the artist; Bandcamp only took 10% of the revenue back in 2020 (but that may have changed since)
