Easily overlooked among end-of-year album releases is this new live record from The Roots, doing the bulk of their DYWM album (as part of its anniversary).
Super solid. It was recorded live shortly after Roy Ayers passing and they include an instrumental tribute + a live version of Proceed 2, which Ayers guested on (and which I've never heard a live version of, I don't think)
The real white whale here is a live Distortion of Static!!! And it's excellent, along with a Rahzel-supported, Dice-featuring "The Lesson" that is slamming.
But we also get live versions of a good number of tunes from Illadelph Half life, including Section and Respond/React.
Great release all around. Not a lot of contenders for "best live hip hop album ever" but this is a strong contender.
