The trajectory of things would have techbros thinking everybody is a luddite, but the maker communities and people who repair their own old gear are simply making for themselves shit that works.
I begin to wonder if the new raw material shouldn’t be a bucket load of systems on a card, where people get out a few pluggable components or maybe even still a soldering iron and build what they need

I have become a big fan of Louis Rossmann who’s waging a one-man campaign to restore the right to repair.
It is very cathartic to listen to him rip apart all this bullshit, and even better define the law by supplying bounties to people for those who come up with a way to fix the company, hacking and restore functionality what people bought and with their property

Without R2R the honest manufacturer has no advantage over the rugpull because they can't promise that service, parts, software updates will stay good after a pivot or change in ownership
R2R imposes no extra costs on the honest brand—it cuts off the rugpull option they intend not to use anyway, and brings the fair price of the product up
@GhostOnTheHalfShell @johnlogic @dlakelan this is why Apple Vision Pro failed—adjusted for inflation it was less than 1/2 the price of the original Macintosh, but developers don't trust hardware companies enough to make that kind of investment any more
