Aurora Continues – January 20, 2026

A strong geomagnetic storm carried over into January 20, 2026, producing an intense and rapidly evolving aurora display over the Goldstream Valley near Fairbanks, Alaska. Within minutes of arriving on the trail, bands and rays filled the sky and built into a prolonged overhead corona, one of the most sustained displays I’ve seen in years.
Green auroral bands separate into thinner strands and begin to shimmer, creating a rippling effect across the sky. The motion blur emphasizes rapid changes in shape and intensity.
