#writersCoffeeClub 1/27: What's a technical skill you think should be more widespread?

I'm always a little surprised at the number of people who seem to be unable to identify a good sentence or even a grammatical one without the use of (now) AI-adjacent products like Grammarly or Pro Writing Aid.

The other day I saw someone agonizing about whether or not using PWA to edit their book before sending to an agent meant they were using AI, b/c a lot of agents apparently won't touch a manuscript that was created using AI. And I just think...if you knew how to write a grammatical sentence, if you could judge for yourself whether your sentence was having the effect you want...you wouldn't need that shit. This wouldn't even be a question. Those programs don't do anything for you that you can't do for yourself.

Another popular subgenre of post is "I fed my manuscript into the LLM and asked it to make suggestions." Okay. Maybe don't. Learn to trust your own judgement, find some friends, or hire an editor.
