March 25th is #DocumentFreedomDay! In appreciation of the work that @dff and @tdforg do for the free software ecosystem, we invite everyone to crack open @libreoffice Impress and take part in the Open Source Club's #TemplateaThon2026!
While the competition aspect of the Template-a-Thon will be limited to members of OSC here at OSU, we encourage those in the F/LOSS community at large to make all the OPT templates they can.

How the Template-a-thon?
1. Install a free (as in freedom) presentation-making tool (we recommend LibreOffice Impress!)
2. Create a presentation template in .OPT format using your own work and appropriately CC-licensed assets. Ensure all fonts are also freely licensed (such as with the Open Font License)
3. When your template is complete, distribute it with a Creative Commons license of your choosing. Then, let everyone know it’s out there!
Why the Template-a-thon?
The proprietary file formats used by Office 365, Canva, and the Google suite are popular not just because of public familiarity, but a large ecosystem of user-generated content. Students, for example, often download slides templates for assignments, and these are normally in the aforementioned formats. Enriching the ecosystem surrounding free tools lowers their creative barriers to entry!

What's the Template-a-thon?
In celebration of Document Freedom Day 2026, the Open Source Club at the Ohio State University invites members of the FLOSS community to create OpenDocument Presentation templates published under CreativeCommons licenses. We also encourage making these public, either through personal webpages, or the official LibreOffice Extensions page (using the tags Impress, Presentations, and Templates)
