As someone who studied Mass Communication in college, I am absolutely shocked by the little media coverage of the AI slop video published on social media by the U.S. president... where he puts on a crown, gets on a jet & proceeds to drop massive quantities of fecal matter on protestors of the No Kings day.
Had this happened 10 years ago it would have been front page news everywhere.
Are we so desensitized by his undignified behavior + AI slop that nothing shocks people anymore?
@_elena Personally, I don't have the energy to be outraged by every depravity that comes out of his administration. I believe that resistance is long-term, and we need to choose our battles wisely. The President's fecal fantasies are not worth my attention.
@_elena I heard about it in European news. But my spontaneous thought was: He provokes with his shit to become number one in the news and let people forget what is much more important: reporting about the protests, the millions on the streets against him. Nothing better to make a #narcissist angry: don't report about every of his farts. Report about resisting him, also in #socialMedia. Don't become an #echoChamber of #fascism and #fakes.
@_elena I agree. It’s absolutely demented. I’ve actually seen more coverage of it in Spanish and Italian newspapers than mainstream US media.

I am curious who actually made it. I seriously doubt Trump himself has the patience or mental acuity required. So that means someone on the White House staff thought this would be a good message? That I do find bizarre, but not implausible.

@_elena I heard about it on either CNN or MSNBC today... But I think the thing they were trying to do was not give in to Trump's attempt at trolling / manipulation.
That's the thing with Trump -- he does this outrageous stuff to get a reaction. If we give it too much attention, it only feeds his ego.
@_elena It's the end result of years of sane-washing Trump's behavior. The US news media has done everything possible to sell the idea that this is all "normal" and this latest shitting-on-US-citizens video exceeds the media's capacity to cover it up. So they stop reporting. They are at TILT.
@tsturm yes and since all Big Tech leaders are capitulating, it's no wonder that so many companies are pushing AI slop... warping everyone's sense of reality, so nothing will shock people anymore

Non saprei, forse abbiamo capito che quel tipo di comunicazione in fondo piace a quelli che finiscono per votarlo. Così magari abbiamo deciso che "non ragioniam di lor, ma guarda e passa" è più sensato che amplificare il messaggio sulle prime pagine?
Le strategie di comunicazione di 10 anni fa hanno contribuito a portarci alla situazione attuale, non è proprio detto che fossero tutte sensate… o magari lo erano più per vendere che per alimentare l'opinione pubblica.

@fcalva yes. To be fair I first read about it in the NYTimes (gift link: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/19/us/politics/trump-fake-video-no-kings.html?unlocked_article_code=1.u08.4-9Q.bBM3SITeP1Ym&smid=url-share) but the tone of the reporting was so nonchalant...
I for one am absolutely outraged and if a political leader tried to pull this in Europe, there would be massive demonstrations in the street

Ci siamo davvero desensibilizzati troppo: siamo talmente circondati da schifo che accettiamo (come collettività) anche 'sta cosa facendo spallucce e de-responsabilizzando chi invece bisognerebbe accusare con forza.
