03/20 - Sanctuary: Benefit for CASA, Takoma Park, MD
FRIDAY, March 20 at 7:30 pm, come on out to a FREE evening of music and poetry in the Takoma Park Community Center celebrating the theme of “SANCTUARY.” (Takoma Park is a proud Sanctuary City). Lisa Moscatiello and [Jennifer Cutting] will sing a beloved Spanish-language folksong ([their] debut singing in Spanish!) with a brand new verse in English on the evening’s theme. There’ll be a dozen other musicians and poets contributing fabulously creative performances. Any donations collected will support We Are Casa, which advocates for local immigrant communities and families. Increasingly visible foreigners are an ideal scapegoat for Japan's current woes. They have weak legal protections and little cultural backing. Best of all for propagandists, their numbers are small, so it’s hard to get caught lying about them.

This week Minneapolis' liberal mayor, Jacob Frey, VETOED a bill that passed the city council aimed at help everyone & immigrants prevent eviction.
The bill required that landlords negotiate must wait a minimum of 60days prior to evicting a tenant.
For Frey, that bill was not neo-liberal enough. Instead of BROAD tenant protections he wants a means-tested housing assistance program with littles funds that run dry FAST.

Well. Senate debate on C-12 is over. The bill has now gone back to the House with two amendments- but to my sorrow, all our other amendments failed. Still, I’m proud of the two dozen or so senators from all parts of the Chamber who stood together to fight for justice for immigrants, refugees, international students and those on work visas. We made our arguments with passion, reason, evidence and courage. I hope courts will take note in the future. #C12 #BillC12 #cdnpoli #Canada #immigration
