not only a rich period for jazz/fusion - see sample below - but given the concurrent innovation and landmark albums in rock, soul, funk, reggae, etc. there's a strong case for the early 70s being the pinnacle of Western popular music (to the jazz purists' chagrin)
also the most heavily represented time period in my record collection though that's partly due to availabilty/affordability
