I've had these #Meindl hiking boots for over 50 years. Bought them with money I made as a kid drawing editorial cartoons for my hometown newspaper. They got me started #hiking the #Appalachian #Trail in #Virginia and #Pennsylvania, and later in the #Sierra #Nevada. It was past time to get them re-soled and some TLC. Meindl-approved cobbler in Seattle worked wonders. I went nuts with 72-inch laces. #craftsmanship #reuse #repair

My chest freezer stopped freezing. A quick diagnostic revealed a broken thermostat. I've replaced this thermostat once before, but now they where out of stock, and it was hard to find a good replacement that was worth the money in repairing a 15 year old freezer. So what to do?
Replaced the old mechanical thermostat with dual temp sensors, a relay and an esp32-C3. Connected a display and installed EspHome.
Some quick modeling in #freecad and #3dprint on my old Ender S1.
That's a good upgrade. Not only can I digitally control the temp, i also can control the compressors runtime with automated cool downs. And of course I can control my freezer from #homeassistant.
And best of all, I haven't just saved myself some money. I also saved the planet from wasted resources and the climate impacts for (hopefully) many freezer years to come. #repair #righttorepair
