Sea surface temperatures across the northern Atlantic were still warmer than any years since the mid-1800s in December, but they remain well below their recent peak... a good reminder of both climate change and variability.

@ZLabe Most people fail to understand such variability, and that snow and ice are still possible, even becoming more severe, while average temperatures (and atmospheric moisture) climb. Hence, people claiming to refute climate change because snow is forecast in places like coastal #virginia and #northcarolina.
