Jason Kenney 🇨🇦🇺🇦 : "There is no doubt that Pierre has earned the right to carry on as Conservative Leader. He has expanded the Conservative coalition, drove Justin Trudeau out of office, defined the policy agenda, continues to have the Conservatives in a competitive position, has demonstrated the ability to learn and change. And tonight was Pierre at his best. Energetic, compelling message, presenting a positive alternative, hopeful and determined."

I’m an old man! That means that the @avilewis campaign has released a long recording of a recent live stream that features Avi and several inspiring guests. But the guest that makes me feel old as well, importantly, as young is noted musician, author, and activist Billy Bragg. (There are other amazing people like Leah Gazan in the video, of course). Between the two of them they cover the ways in which the current moment reveals hope as more people have become energized and activated to push back against the capitalist forces that harm us all.
The conversation with Bragg starts at around 3:46:39 (Yes, it's a long video! All worth watching 😀❤️)
Which brings me to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, a man who didn't so much win office as fail to lose it, after his Conservative opponent Pierre Poilievre saw a collapse in his poll numbers the instant Donald Trump (whom Poilievre had repeatedly associated himself with during the campaign) promised to turn Canada into "the 51st state."

@pluralistic There's a factual error here. CPC polls went from about 45% support when PM Trudeau resigned to 41% on election day, with a low of 37% in between. That's not a "50-point collapse".
You can see this by looking at the historic polling here:

(There are other points I disagree with, but they're arguable. This one is flatly wrong.)
How about instead of treating the symptom, we deal with the cause?

This is **super** exciting!
After years of Canadians on Fedi being frustrated by party leadership (aside form the Greens, to be fair) basically ignoring this network of platforms (for various good and not-so-good reasons), I am pleased to say that we now have TWO of the NDP leadership candidates on Mastodon. While Tony McQuail can claim the "First here" medal - having opened his account on .social back in October, front-runner Avi Lewis' account on mstdn.ca (created just a few days ago) already has more follows and followers, and not for nothing, chose the biggest Canadian instance, so we know he's taking data sovereignty as more than a slogan.. 😉
We've been complaining for years, so let's show 'em how happy we are that they're finally here, peeps!!
Avi Lewis can be found at https://mstdn.ca/@avilewis
Tony McQuail is at https://mastodon.social/@tonymcquailgreenprogressive
