Diuris sulphurea (tiger or hornet orchid) near the Wonboyn River, NSW. This widespread species is often the last yellow Diuris flowering in East Gippsland (into January at some locations) but I only came across this one plant out on my last quick trip across the border - and that was still in NSW! The lack of spring rain might have cut short the flowering season in some places this year.

My wife prefers my bird photos to my flower photos, but she never sees what I post here.
That being the case, please enjoy this lovely Donkey Orchid (Diuris orientis) from the Anglesea Heath in Victoria. One of the nicer captures from last Friday’s visit, and it makes a peaceful subject for #SilentSunday

Donkey Orchid (Diuris orientis). An attractive small orchid with two (2) yellow petals projecting above the flowers like donkey's ears, hence the name. The 30-40 mm (1 1/2 inch) wide flowers have reddish-brown to purplish markings. Common around Anglesea, Victoria in September - October.

Nice pink variation in this year's Corunna backdoor sun orchids (Thelymitra sp. - T.peniculata and/or T. pauciflora).

Quite a bit of variation in flowers (colours and structures) and leaf size in this small population next to the house. All of the plants are fairly shy to flower with only one or two buds opening for an hour or so on some warm / humid days.
