Pretty modern work from Konitz -- recorded in Rome in 1968, with a French rhythm section of Martial Solal on piano, Henry Texier on bass, and Daniel Humair on drums. The presence of Solal especially gives the session an edge -- as Kontiz drifts into Solal's moody, introspective mode of the time -- playing long, angular, sparely-hung solos that rank with some of his most challenging work of the 60s.
