At 634m (2080ft) above sea level are a radar station operated by the Icelandic Coast Guard and a sturdy viewing platform with spectacular views across Ísafjarðardjúp and Jökulfirðir.
Hornstrandir covers 580km² (224mi²) of tundra, cliffs, flowering fields and ice. Uninhabited since the 1950s, a reserve was established in 1975.
Hunting is banned, it's left alone for seabirds and Arctic foxes.
