Here’s the problem: the Soviet Union relied on centralized heating systems, where entire cities were kept warm by steam produced in a single spot and then distributed to apartments across a broad area. It’s good for efficiency, but easily targeted in a #war.

The 2006 heating pipeline accident in Alchevsk, in the Luhansk region was perhaps the first time #Ukrainians felt so intensely just how badly the #Soviet heating system could backfire.
