I think it's "harder to hire than ever" because #HR is looking at resumes instead of having real conversations with real people.

@travisfw I think it's because everyone wants to hire seniors, but nobody wants to train juniors.

True, @deshipu. And juniors don't have the resume, but they might have the talent.

@travisfw Talent is irrelevant. What counts is what resources and support the person gets *after* you hire them. And that usually sucks hard, because all the budget went to hiring.

I've talked with some hiring managers from various firms. They all tell me that their retaining budget is like 1% of their hiring budget. Because hiring is an investment, but retaining is a cost.

So we put more and more people through the meat grinder and discard them.

@deshipu talent, despite the common HR usage of the term, is innate. Skill still needs to be developed. Talent still needs resources. (You are still absolutely right, and I am still not arguing with you.)

@travisfw Nobody has ever found the gene for talent. Identical twins don't share talents. There is absolutely no evidence to suppose the talent is innate.
