Just yesterday, I got my 90yo mother onboard DeltaChat, joining the rest of my family (we all switched over from Signal a few months back)
She lives alone, independently, and has used email for 2+/day wellness checks for decades.

I quipped “technically, it’s still email” as she opened up the app. You could see the gears turning in her head.

“So… there’s no spam?”

“Cryptographically impossible” I assured her.

@_elena the QR barcode scanning and displaying features are underrated, for sharing contacts. Can quickly add a contact with a friend IRL, say over coffee. Note: WhatsApp, Signal and Conversations ( #XMPP) also have this.

Standardized protocol, solid, extensible, secure.

@_elena Delta Chat is a great way to decentralize the IM. I've been using it years ago, with a couple of friends, using my primary e-mail address. It was great. I'm considering to host a chatmail server.

I personally think it's the most recommendable chat app for the future. Sad that so few people use it regularly. The UX is already pretty awesome imo and WebXDC apps are simply a killer feature. It constantly improves and the team is full of great activists.

One thing that you might want to be careful about, is that on #DeltaChat there’s no admins, and anyone can delete everyone’s messages.
