A new study that takes advantage of a change in availability of the shingles (*Herpes zoster*) vaccine in Wales finds that vaccination reduces dementia symptoms in those already diagnosed with the disease, and reduced deaths from dementia by approximately 30% over the following nine years.

Earlier this year, as a 68 year old Welsh woman, I had the NHS 2 part shingles vaccination (Shintrix) of the non-live recombinate vaccine.
Whereas my slightly older wife had hers a few years ago but she only received a single dose of the live attenuated vaccine (Zostavax).
Is there any evidence that two shots are better than one?
Given that two shots seem to be more effective than one in preventing shingles is there any evidence which vaccine is more protective against dementia 🤔
@TCMuffin @rdnielsen I can't answer your question specifically, but I know Zostavax is no longer marketed in the US due to the overwhelming superiority of Shingrix for preventing shingles. Some vaccines get replaced with more effective ones and they recommend that everyone get the new one even if they've already been vaccinated but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

Despite all the flack that our NHS receives from Westminster, yet again the #WelshNHS is in the forefront of important research into the connection between the shingles vaccination and the reduction in dementia in vaccinated patients 🙄
