You might think it's not a priority with all the doom happening around.

But the erosion of privacy rights is directly linked to the erosion of human rights, and the loss of democracy.

Privacy makes it safe for you to discuss, to organize, to resist, and to be your true self. This is exactly why fascists and authoritarians are attacking it.

If we lose privacy, we lose everything else. We have to defend it with all we've got.

Privacy rights are a priority.

Haargenau so ischs.
Wir müssen uns bewusst sein, was uns die Entwicklung am Ende kosten.
Erst ist es bequem, aber sie führen nichts Gutes im Schilde‼️

The irony of course is that it seems to require a maximum level of democratic governance to achieve a minimum level of privacy protection.

nah, you’re spitting facts. privacy’s the real VIP pass to freedom, and without it, we’re all just pickles in an open jar. let’s keep it tight, folks!

@Em0nM4stodon ICE officers shouldn't be allowed to stick a phone in anyone's face to run face recognition without their consent. A coalition of privacy and civil rights advocates are telling DHS to end the program immediately.

@Em0nM4stodon Privacy and free expression leave your mind outside the purview of fascists. You can still say 2+2=4. This must be defended in order to defend anything else, or we end up with the modern equivalent of the town crier, the bottleneck to control the flow of information.

@Em0nM4stodon Also a somewhat distinct right of anonymity that’s being lost. That you can walk down the street without strangers ID’ing you, likewise surfing the Internet

As said Snowden:

"Arguing that you don't care about privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say."
-- Edward Snowden.

I think the privacy topic is directly related to corporations thinking they're entitled to harvest alllllll the personal information.

And then replace actual human creativity with mediocre AI summaries.

Privacy is foundational in contrast to the current trends of digital exploitation.

Though, I do think it's absurd that they think they will ever be innovative by switching to a product that can only lie and spit out indiscriminate averages.

In the fall of 2021 I had the pleasure of taking Amy Reed-Sandoval’s seminar on the Ethics of Privacy and Surveillance.

Earlier this week I put together the readings she assigned, from topics like privacy in the workplace to state policing.

@Em0nM4stodon Not content with vast wealth, many become intoxicated by the notion of ever more, and the need to control everyone in fear of losing any. And few step back and see the toxic madness in such a poisoned existence.

@Em0nM4stodon what's wild is our media have completely dropped any semblance of concern for privacy rights. We have CEOs encouraging teens to share their deepest secrets with robots and news orgs seem oblivious.

Privacy has been an essential pillar of democratic society, even all the way back to Pericles' funeral speech:

"The freedom we enjoy in our government extends also to our ordinary life. There, far from exercising a jealous surveillance over each other, we do not feel called upon to be angry with our neighbour for doing what he likes..."
