Conversation w/inmate worker about sudden increase in items missing from inventory on arrival from warehouse.
Me: Glad I'm not at `$yard[-1]` anymore. Lots of warehouse workers there, all kinds of side hustles.
They, sarcastically: What could possibly be going on?
Me, sardonically: Hmmm
They: What motive could they possibly have?
Me: HMMM
They: With the price increases?
Me: And the new quantity limits?
They: A perfect storm.
Me: Talk about creating a market.
BTW they did some math. Rather than ~4oz bags of instant coffee for $6, inmates must now purchase $0.25 single serving packets with ~0.05oz of instant coffee in each.
The math: they need 75 single serve packets for the same amount of coffee they could get from a 4oz bag, at a cost of $18.75. For the amount of coffee that cost $6 two weeks ago.
They make 50 cents an hour.
