Would you like your public Mastodon posts to be as easy as possible for people to discover? If so, you might want to opt into "full text search". This will make your public posts show up in search results a lot more easily.

If you don't activate it, your public posts will still be searchable but only by hashtag.

You need to actually switch it on or off in settings to activate or deactivate full text search.
I think some unofficial third party search engine required people to indicate status in bio, because it had no access to official settings.
