Arrogance is the middle name of the New York Times. It prides itself on being out of touch, since being in touch would imply that it does not stand at the top of the hill of superior, objective discernment at which both sides can be declared equally flawed. This is the hallmark of insular, parochial arrogance.

The New York Times is not out of touch. It is deliberately sowing disinformation for the purpose of aiding the destruction of democracy. We should not attribute to naivety what can more accurately be described as informed malignant intent.
