Other board members not really doing their homework either, with Joe Mihevc asking at the end of a presentation and series of questions "can someone explain what this thing is?", although it's described in the item being considered and was mentioned in the media already. Hmmm.

TTC Board returns from lunch break to discuss speeding up Line 6 (and by extension line 5 in future), and streetcar routes too.

Cllr Saxe flatly calling out "slower than the bus" problem with Line 6.

"Why do we need to talk to Metrolinx... about transit signal priority?"

TTC: "the city does control". (paraphrased) Operating agreement with Metrolinx requires consultation with Metrolinx for any operational changes. Running faster/differently could impact maintenance, for example.

Saxe: "Is Metrolinx in favour of making this as fast as they said it was going to be?" (TTC gives a non-answer)

"How quickly can the city get the speed advertised?" (Staff say lots of steps, not simple to modify behaviour within contract)

"What about left turns" in front of Line 6? (Staff say they're changing policy to have TTC go ahead of left turn signals)

TTC head of planning speaks up changes expected in early Spring.

Cllr Matlow asks about contradiction between province saying we can go ahead with signal priority, but staff suggesting agreement with Metrolinx required.

Staff expand on previous answer about how schedule change can impact maintenance which impacts cost for the maintenance provider, as an example. Need to ensure it still fits in the agreement.

Matlow mentions a Dec 5 meeting with province about opening both lines in December (reported on recently), and Chair jumps in to ask him to rephrase to remove reference to any alleged meeting. 🙄
