Yesterday, underneath a pearly sky with the promise of rain later, we waited in line for our chance to try something special at #westlandseattle - #westlandwhiskey's Garryana 10th Edition. Aged for 10-years, this celebrates an achievement at the distillery, their first 10-year-old single malt whiskey.
Inviting the public to attend (via online RSVP), approximately 1,000 guests committed to attending, to sipping, shopping (pssst, including hats and bags), and above all celebrating with the staff at Westland Whiskey.
During our visit, we enjoyed the opportunity to enjoy other Garryana editions, each unique with the help of people like Master Distiller (Tyler Pederson, slide 8), Master Blender (Shane Armstrong, slide 7), and the staff at the distillery. Truly, despite the kinetic nature of the event, we made the time to savor every sample by sip and by smell.
Besides samples of Westland Whiskey, there was an opportunity to enjoy breakfast, courtesy several food trucks, like this duo of scrambled eggs, peppers, cheese, and bacon, complimented by the inclusion of Garryana during cooking.
Continuing to wander, we enjoy the acoustical serenade in the barrel room, while observing people taking in the experience.
But we didn’t miss the opportunity to witness a coopering demonstration outside the loading area beyond the distillery. The sight of the garryana wood slowly drying, its insides charring, created a welcome aroma that reminds us of backyard evenings, covered from head to toe in warm clothing, as the aroma of kilned wood wafts into our faces.
Concluding, we took notice of the tasting room counter, which was busy with guests purchasing everything from the celebratory release, to others like the latest Cask Exchange (with Georgetown Brewing Company), plus many others.
We want to thank the staff, the distillers, and the blenders for the invitation and look forward to returning again.
