Class size caps are vitally important to guarantee continued funding of the education system. Without the government can say, "sure, we'll hire thousands more teachers then be done with it. Then population grows and we're right back where we were. Just like how the UCP inherited the highest minimum wage in the country then stagnated it for a term and a half until it became the LOWEST minimum wage in the country. Now we have the lowest per student public education funding in the country, and that's what we will go right back to without this guarantee to maintain class sizes for the successful learning environment of our children, and the healthy teaching environment of our teachers.

Teachers reject province's offer for 'enhanced mediation’ after Smith refuses to discuss class sizes at the bargaining table. “In the face of such inflexibility, teachers have no choice but to continue strike action,” said ATA President Jason Schilling. (via Gil McGown, AFL President)

Government Funding going to Private Schools would be better spent on Public education.

1. Funding for public schools is inadequate.

2. Alberta has systematically reduced funding for public schools since the 1990's while increasing its use of taxpayer money towards private schools.

3. Private schools operate successfully in other provinces without taxpayer support.

4. UCP choosing not to track classroom sizes in Alberta results in a lack of transparency. Other data clearly shows that student population growth in the public system has dramatically outpaced the growth in the teacher population. Increased class sizes are the inevitable result.

5. The Alberta Government has all the tools it needs to increase funding for public schools to a fair level. If "lack of funds" is the only reason for not doing so, the Government has the power to reduce funding to Private schools and allocate that money to the public system at no net increased cost to taxpayers.

“This will disproportionately affect students with
disabilities” Part 2

Supporting vulnerable students is very important!

Provinces such as Ontario show that private schools can continue to run without government funding. Schools would adjust and students with disabilities at specialized private schools would still have those choices.

Within public schools, there are also specialized schools and programs
A which would be better funded & perhaps expanded with more government funding.

Supporting vulnerable students is very important!

If the money going towards private schools is returned to funding public schools, there could be lower classroom sizes and more supports in the
public system.

This would allow for public students with disabilities to get MORE help.

Plus, there are already barriers in place for accessing private education with high tuition costs & selective acceptance processes

Public schools welcome everyone.
