The European Court of Justice @Curia actually has a history of advancing #LGBT rights
See also Coman and others vs Romania, which established recognition of same sex marriages in the context of freedom of movement

One of the things I love about the EU is that they enable these rights without ever falling into the trap of engaging in the right's “culture wars”.
Their reasoning is simple: the EU has given people rights, our job is to make sure citizens can exercise those rights.
For LGBT citizens to exercise their rights, we need to recognise same-sex marriage and gender reassignment across the Union.
Simple, indisputable, and difficult to argue against.
