Guns & Repression is a delightfully tropey and fun little game. It's basically #Supernatural as a one-page #ttrpg.
Tonight, we vanquished a demon that was terrorising a hospital. "Cleo Cooper" used her ex-cop skills to dig up some information, "Lee Enfield" (me) chatted up a waitress and got details of her sick mum who was conveniently on the Death Ward, and "John Browning Jr" went one-on-one with the demon and temporarily chased it off.
We worked out that we needed blessed silver, so Cleo and I left JB undercover (and under covers) pretending to be sick to watch the ward and went to find the nearest open place of worship. The folks at the gurdwara were wary, but Cleo was persuasive (as was a significant donation to their soup kitchen) and a pile of silver knives and bullets got some nice words spoken over them.
A good plan, a circle of salt, and a lucky roll later and the demon was killed (or at least banished). The waitress's mum was saved, the rest of the patients were safe, and the doctors were very glad to see the back of us.
There's no space for character progression, learning new skills, etc. But sometimes you just want to jump in and play, without spending significant time on character creation or worrying about whether it'll be fun for more than a few hours. Any derivative of Lasers and Feelings, with its single-stat mechanic and roll&play scenario generation, is perfect for those days.
