Both are true: Thiel is reaching for "antichrist" theology to justify his race toward destruction while also tapping the apocalyptic thinking of others to maintain power. Reality: the bill is coming due for climate change and men like him are desperate to lock down power to escape responsibility.

Instead of numerous corporate media outlets writing “think” pieces on Peter Thiel’s AntiChrist musings, I wish they’d help more Americans grasp the following:

Millions of Americans have been indoctrinated to believe an apocalypse will hail the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

They have been trained to see everything from climate change to COVID to war as evidence that we are living in the End Times.

They believe the United States must collapse to usher in the End Times and the rise of the AntiChrist, and they nihilistically welcome that destruction.

The more humanity suffers, the more they will rejoice and say their Bibles are coming true.

This crowd is primed to accept theocratic rule and to force theocratic rule on others in the name of controlling “the enemy” - the AntiChrist and his spawn (which is anyone who isn’t on their Christian Nationalist team.)

Wherever possible, we must get more people to realize how religion is being used to subjugate groups and pit people against each other. That should be the real story. @susankayequinn If people have nothing to rationally explain why things happen (Trump’s mission in dismantling trust in science) they resort to extreme religious ideas to explain what they don’t know. Bring the anti-Christ fear into the picture and suddenly you have hungry, huddled masses looking for help in a strong “leader” who will provide and protect them, but only for a price: their work, obedience, lack of compassion for others and willingness to give up their freedom.

@bouriquet I don't disagree that's Trump's aim, but I also don't let people off the hook. They've been resorting to extreme religious ideas to explain things that are FULLY KNOWN. They know evolution exists, the science is established, but it contradicts what they want to believe about their Bible, so they choose ignorance. And then demand a "strong leader" who will pander to that ignorance and force OTHERS to be ignorant as well.

Trump isn't making this happen.
They are making Trump happen.

@susankayequinn You know, back when I was little my dad used to rant about how religion was nothing more than a tool that the powerful used to keep the masses down.

He'd grown up in the Southern Baptist Church and left it / the South at 19. I figured he had reasons for thinking that.

Yeah.

Kinda thinking my dad was a little more aware than I knew when I was young.
