#Ontario, #Canada is extending its One Fare programme for two more years to help keep #transit costs down across the Greater #Toronto and Hamilton Area. Introduced in 2024, the scheme allows riders to pay a single fare when transferring between the TTC and several regional agencies, including GO Transit, #Brampton Transit, #Durham Region Transit, MiWay, Peel TransHelp and #York Region Transit. The government says the initiative has already enabled nearly 62 million free transfers, saved travellers close to $200 million, and can reduce annual commuting costs by up to $1,600. Officials say the extension supports a more integrated regional network as the province carries out a major $70-billion transit expansion, including new #subway, light rail and GO service projects. Local leaders and transit agencies welcomed the move, saying it improves affordability, simplifies cross-boundary #travel and encourages greater public #transport use.
