Cover reveal! We've edited this book for modern readers. It's an important documentation of African cultures. The original, written 100yrs ago by a racist anthropologist, had a lot of problematic texts, misinformation, and hallucinations of colonialists. We had to weed all that out, and it was a hectic job that took so much longer that planned. Now we are done, the cover is here, and now we hope to release it in a few weeks. Another day, another instance of someone on the Fediverse telling people not to do something which is essentially a public good.
This time it's a librarian telling people not to borrow ebooks from libraries. The other option isn't cheaper, permanent physical books, I'm afraid. For many people, it's immediately available ebooks on pirate sites.
It's taken me so long to get my friends, nieces and godchildren to use Libby and BorrowBox (for audiobooks).
It is very disheartening to read something so exclusionary and privileged. I know most librarians want you to take advantage of anything and everything a library has to offer because their use justifies their expenditure.

Srsly, unless you quite literally cannot do paper #books, put the hard copy of a popular novel on hold at the #library instead of waiting for your turn with the Libby #ebook. You will almost certainly get it faster in print. AND it’s better for your library.
I’ve been on the wait list for a Libby book for a week or so & the current wait is 22 weeks. I put a hold on a paper copy this afternoon & it’s already in transit from elsewhere in my library’s consortium. #bookstodon

I just finished reading “Four Lost Cities”, an urban archeology/history book by Annalee Newitz. It’s a fascinating account of what we’ve learned about city living from very different abandoned places, including Pompeii, Angkor Wat, and two others (one in Europe and one in present day USA that I had never heard of before, probably because its existence doesn’t fit in with the official settler narrative).
I found it a fascinating read, because the stories of the cities are so different from one another, and more nuanced than the packaged versions you’ve probably read.
I was halfway through the book before I realized the author was the same person who wrote the cozy sf novella “Automatic Noodle”, which I had recommended earlier. I have much respect for their range!
Thanks to @jonobie
for the recommendation!
De pura casualidad he encontrado a esta autora que ha escrito una saga solarpunk y como sé que por aquí el género interesa, os la comparto: https://susankayequinn.com/series/nothing-is-promised
En Kobo, por cierto, está gratis la primera parte.
"Her research popularised the idea of the #woodWideWeb, but the scientific backlash was brutal. As the author of The Mother Tree returns to the #forest in a new book, she discusses her battle to reimagine our relationship with #nature." FAB 5 FREDDY may not be the household name he once was, but this autobiography should change that. Come for the inside stories of graffiti, rap, hip-hop, and MTV, but you’ll stay for the reminiscences of late-20th century Black New York. A MINUS

I read a scary book and now I can't sleep. Turns out I have not changed much since I was 10! #bookstodon #BookMastodon
