Good morning/afternoon folks.
So, Dick Blick has some sort of liquidation sale going on, if you didn't hear. The art supplies distributor MacPherson has gone out of business. Another casualty of the past 6 years. (Was too tired to share this when I found out earlier).
These brands aren't going away, as MacPherson isn't a manufacturer. Its just that Dick Blick acquired a surplus. Some art supplies like Conte crayons or Graphite pencils don't go bad.

BTW, I REALLY don't recommend the Copic markers anymore.
They're expensive, but the last straw was when markers started to dry out and get moldy even when the cap was on. I read customer reviews. I've had the drying out/mold happen to me.
The problem is a crack in the cap, but Too, the makers of Copics, keep saying the customers broke the caps, hence drying out/get moldy. So you mean to tell me new markers arrive dry because the customer... broke the caps in transit?
I also don't like how Too/Copic reduced the size of the marker refills and then decided to charge more for them.
I have the old bottles AND receipts, I ain't stupid. 😒
IDK what Copic is doing, tbh. But I'm experimenting with buying inexpensive copic refills and using them to refill non-Copic markers that I have.
I mean, my Prismacolor markers have lasted over a decade w/o "cap breakage".
(My Ohuhu markers are far from needing refills just yet but I'll try them too.)
Watercolor paper can go bad. Sometimes oil paints can go bad. Daniel Smith watercolors are fairly good. I like their Primatek Gemstone watercolors.
A fountain pen called "Flow Fountain" with a ballpoint pen. Might be good for folks who wanna get into using fountain pens for sketching.
I'm getting posca markers for when I can't get up and do acrylic painting, of course. Some colored pencils.
Well. I'm trying to see what I actually need, you know.

However, things like wet paints (tempera, casein, egg tempera) CAN go bad. So I'm guessing they wanna move merchandise fast.
The problem is, a lot of these supplies aren't priced to move. IMO.
There are some things that are a pretty decent deal, like some of the watercolor and cotton papers. Journals.
Now is a great time to try new art supplies if you were curious about them. I'm trying Oil Sticks and WC Sticks. Stuff is selling out tho.

I did this 7x5” oil panel for a #redditgetsdrawn request. It was a lot of fun!
Another #redditgetsdrawn miniature portrait study.
I’m really loving this sketchbook setup for portrait practice studies. I still love miniature landscape cards but I don’t like selling the random portrait studies so I’m just moving them into the sketch book and not looking back!

Made a poster for anyone to use for protests and No Kings Day.
*Note: please feel free to use for your posters—just no altering text or images, please. Thank you!

It’s sized to print at 11x17”
