I went scouting for wildlife along the east coast of Vancouver Island today for my upcoming photo tours during the herring spawn.
Steller sea lions are starting to show up, I observed them catching fish near the shore.
Bald eagles are back too, calling each other from tree tops. Soon they'll start to build a nest. Took this photo this morning.

The sea has a milky turquoise colour because of the herring spawn. A large sea lion in the bottom right of the photo moves towards a group of sea lions huddled in the choppy sea. Three bald eagles survey the situation with the intention to grab herring as the spawn is happening in shallow waters on the shore of Vancouver Island.
