#BikeNite A8: Came across some art on the Iron Horse Trail.
And our last question of the week:
Q8. Show us a photo from something cycle-related from the past week! It doesn't have to be anything special at all.
If you'd like to, share one and tell us about it!

That's it! Thanks for being a part of #BikeNite and asking, answering, reading and discussing. Thank you for the questions!
If you have more for next week, send them over. We've got ~4 in the queue for next week, and can use more.
Please reply and use the BikeNitePQ hashtag to ask. <500 characters please; I may shorten if necessary to fit in the scheduler.
Reply, boost and favorite to keep it going. Thanks for being a part of this community. And you can follow #BikeNite, if you haven't yet.
@ascentale Thanks for all you do for #BikeNite Phil. It’s always a treat 😀

@doris asks:
Q6. Have you ever had a "Bike of Theseus": a bike where you've eventually replaced every part of it that it's completely different to the bike you've originally had?
Inspired by the Ship of Theseus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_of_Theseus
(If you haven't, do you have anything that comes close?)

@forth asks:
I know we've had winter biking questions in the past, but I'm wondering specifically about studded tires and the alternatives - DIY studs, chains, zip ties.
Q5. Am I forgetting any alternatives? Does anyone have experience from which to compare them? (studded tires or studded tire alternatives!)

@ascentale @forth @bikenite A5. FWIW, the year I commuted to work through winter I put the biggest, knobbiest tires on my mountain bike and kept them a little under-inflated. That worked great in snow and slush, but not on ice. As my commute was mostly on a multi-use asphalt trail that was cleared and salted pretty quickly after a snow fall, I didn’t encounter much ice so I was ok.
But the salt really trashed my bike be the end of the season.
Sorry I can’t compare it with studs.

@drgeraint asks:
Q3. Is there a bit of road that you just hate cycling on?
For me, a short stretch of southbound Mearns Rd at Mearns Kirk. Slight rise, poor surface, from Eaglesham Rd to the roundabout:

Just horrible for a fraction of a minute.
Meanwhile, I just love Mearns Rd up by Hazelden, in either direction:

@ascentale @drgeraint @bikenite A2. There are plenty of those here in Waterloo Region, but I can almost always avoid them if I’m using @CyclingGuide
Off the top of my head, though, cycling to Herrle’s farm market is unpleasant on the last stretch, as it’s located on an 80km/h country road that often has lots of cars on it.
We used to live in a house that had busy railway tracks right at the end of the back yard. Couldn't stand the noise for the first few weeks, but after a month or so we didn't even hear the trains at all. When we moved away we couldn't sleep because of the quiet...

@ascentale @bobjonkman @bikenite A4. I haven't but have joked about it. The rail right by our house is decidedly not abandoned as a train rather loudly passes. Somehow they're always louder at night.

@drgeraint @bikenite A3. There are lots 😞 There's a section of Webster St. in Downtown Oakland that has painted bike lanes. But drivers park in the bike lanes all the time so they are not usable. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Webster+St,+California/@37.8116214,-122.2661635,17z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x808f8753a909af45:0xaa4485d05257ade2!8m2!3d37.8139354!4d-122.264758!16s%2Fg%2F1tt0rc2t!5m1!1e3
There are other terrible roads where it is scary to ride on because there is no dedicated space for cycling and because drivers go very fast.
There are very nice new lanes in Berkeley by the University that have concrete protection and are nice and wide for riding together. https://youtube.com/shorts/Tssmr0tElOw

I'd love to try railbiking, but don't have (nearby) abandoned rail tracks, and no outriggers, and no skill or equipment to make them. Lots of people do, tho.

Q4. Have you ever railbiked? Built a railbike outrigger? Got photos?
