ABBEY LINCOLN
Straight Ahead
1961 U.S. MONO pressing

My favorite vocal jazz album of all time.
Abbey鈥檚 voice cuts me to the absolute core, and this album is perfect for a pensive Friday afternoon spin.

Anna Woolridge (her real name) as an incredible singer, actress and activist. She was married to Max Roach (who drums on this record), and she had a remarkable 60 year career.

I remember exactly where I was when I first heard this album.
I was in a record store in NY (probably in the Village) around 2000 or so when I lived there, and the gentleman who owned the store had this playing.

Unfortunately, he wouldn鈥檛 sell it to me, and it took a good decade after that for me to finally find a pristine vinyl copy.

If you鈥檙e unfamiliar with this beautiful record, please listen to it by any means you can. She鈥檚 amazing.
