After a good amount of success on Mercury Records, this was her first single on MCA Records, the beginning of hit-after-hit for her throughout several years.

A perfect album for quiet, chilly Monday afternoon.

An absolute musical masterpiece and one of the finest albums of the #90s .

It’s still the only Mercury Rev album I need. Whenever I hear ANYTHING else by them playing, my immediate thought is “Why isn’t Deserter’s Songs on?”.

When I first bought this on CD in ‘98, it was the first album I had become completely immersed in and obsessed with since Radiohead’s OK COMPUTER, which came out in May of 1997.

For the following 16 months, most everything else I heard came of banal and underwhelming.

Until Deserter’s Songs arrived in September of ‘98.

Just a beautiful, inspirational and timeless sounding record made for a day like I’m having today.

De La Soul, Clear Lake Auditorium, 1994 on Tommy Boy

I love De La Soul, especially the first three albums – 3 Feet High and Rising, De La Soul is Dead, and Buhloone Mindstate. This EP was a promotional only release in 1994, which was widely bootlegged over the years, and includes 4 tracks from Buloone Mindstate plus two non-album tracks, one of which features A Tribe Called Quest.

My copy is the 2025 limited edition reissue & repress on translucent green vinyl, which was issued in a “gel” sleeve that actually contains liquid. I immediately re-sleeved, but of course kept the gel sleeve too.

Great little mix of stuff for a chilly Saturday morning, featuring artists that appeared on the EG label.

There’s a few different versions of this comp that came out, depending on the market in which it was being sold.
The U.S. version has a completely different track list and was a traditional 12” record. THAT version had a King Crimson track on it that’s absent on this 10” Canadian version, as well as a few other differences.

It’s a killer comp regardless of which one you have. This Canadian one has Adam And The Ants, Robert Fripp, Brian Eno, Jon Hassell, Longe Lizards, and The League Of Gentlemen to name just a few.

One of my favorite compilations ever.
