#QuestionOfTheDay what's a "failed"/cancelled/"1 and done" piece of original fiction (so a 1 season original anime counts but a manga that didn't get fully adapted and only had 1 season does not) that had a really interesting concept that you would like to have seen get more of a chance to find its footing?

For me it's the Canadian TV show Odyssey 5 which starred Robocop and was about 5 astronauts on a space station around Earth when Earth suddenly implodes. They are saved by a mysterious cosmic being who tells them that planets have been mysteriously imploding and they don't know why but this is the first time they've found survivors. So the 5 characters are sent back in time 5 years to discover what force is behind the implosion of Earth.

Besides that I love the concept, the mystery, and that energy beings are just a thing, the first and only season had a lot of interesting ideas:

- one char was a teenager 5 years ago & feels uncomfortable with his then girlfriend & has to negotiate no longer being the person he was as a teen

- one char decides it's pointless to try to figure this out and decides (at first) to live out the last 5 years to its fullest

- one char wants to save her son who died of a disease the first time & ruins her relationship with her husband obsessing over getting medical investigations into something that hasn't manifested yet

- their attempts to change the timeline end up changing events and revealing depth and aspects of people they knew in the past that they didn't realize was there

Like in the original timeline there was a weatherman at the TV station the reporter character worked at who was a "himbo" he was an athletic dude who wore skimpy clothes and rode a bicycle machine while telling the weather as his gimmick (incidentally I appreciate the gender reversal of the bimbo weather girl stereotype) and the reporter character hated him as an annoying airhead.

But changes to the timeline meant that the forces working on Earth created a weather crisis that didn't happen originally, and he ends up showing deep knowledge of meteorology which he never had a chance to show off in the original timeline so he was just thought of as an airhead beefcake.

I thought that was a really interesting episode that explores how we "know" people in our lives.
