Remember that yesterday's municipal general elections across Alberta was not just chaos; it was ORCHESTRATED chaos, brought to you by the UCP.
Voter suppression was the goal, not a byproduct. We knew this since she started her series of anti-democtratic legislation, but who could stop her?
If you're voting in the cities of Edmonton or Calgary today, you'll probably notice extremely long lines. These long lines are due to the UCP. They are forcing hand-counted ballots (which makes absolutely NO sense as hand-counting is much less accurate), so we need a separate ballot for each person's 3 votes (mayor, council, school trustee). Again, more voter suppression. I ran the last poll that was still hand-counted in like 2002 or something. My station was spot on because I was good with numbers and organization before I got old and my brain deteriorated, so I was done shortly after we closed (which was at 6pm, I think?), but then had to wait till well past MIDNIGHT for the last ballots to be finished because people had to count and recount because they never had their numbers straight. And that's what Danielle Smith calls "trustworthy" counting. In what world does relying on HUMAN ERROR qualify for better "integrity"?
My wife saw many people leave, and others were trying to butt in line. Another friend told me, "The person who had to SIGN EACH BALLOT before she gave them to me said that she had no idea how she was going to be awake for the ballot-counting part of the day. Not exactly reassuring."
So went onto Alberta Connect Care to book my COVID shot and for the nearest clinic to me was given a date of November 22nd. Tried for any clinic and was offered October 31st on the other side of town. Because I want have at least two weeks before international travel and I won't have a car on the 31st I decided to book at Shoppers Drug Mart and got October 27th. I'm fortunate my employer will cover what the Alberta Government was going to charge but this whole setup is bullshit compared to past years when I could literally walk into a pharmacy without an appointment and get the shot.
A recall petition has been filed to recall MLA Demetrios Nicolaides, the Minister of Education.
If you live in Calgary-Bow, go sign and help force a by-election!
When Doug Ford took office in 2018 he just HAD to have new license plates created in Conservative blue and with a slogan based on his ‘Ontario — open for business’ catchphrase that said “A Place to Grow.”
Too bad they couldn’t be read at night when headlights shone on them as pointed out by many in the OPP.
Ontario is back to the white license plates with “Yours to Discover” as the slogan. The approximately 125,000 blue ones will be replaced over time through attrition.

Premier Prentice: "Albertans have spoken very clearly that the priorities they have identified are health, education, taking care of seniors, infrastructure, and changing the design of Alberta's licence plates is not amongst those priorities"

ICYMI - my Alberta Unbound season premiere! I talk to former Alberta deputy premier Thomas Lukaszuk about his Forever Canadian petition campaign? A mad idea that plays into separatist hands? Or smart political gamesmanship that calls the premier’s bluff? @Paulatics Take it from a Quebecker: flirting with separatism might strengthen your bargaining position with Ottawa, but it's a disaster for your province overall.

Class size caps are vitally important to guarantee continued funding of the education system. Without the government can say, "sure, we'll hire thousands more teachers then be done with it. Then population grows and we're right back where we were. Just like how the UCP inherited the highest minimum wage in the country then stagnated it for a term and a half until it became the LOWEST minimum wage in the country. Now we have the lowest per student public education funding in the country, and that's what we will go right back to without this guarantee to maintain class sizes for the successful learning environment of our children, and the healthy teaching environment of our teachers.

THE REPORT IS OUT
It confirms a lot of what has been alleged!
It also confirms the scope of the mandate given to the judge was way too narrow and an actual formal public inquiry is STILL NEEDED.

When the oilmen sucked the sweet oil reservoirs dry in Alberta, the oilmen and their conservative stooges then started blaming government regulations for the job losses that resulted from unconstrained exploitation. Now the public thinks the regulations that protect air, water and biodiversity are the problem, not resource depletion.
When the loggers toppled all the old growth forests in BC, the timbermen and their conservative stooges then started blaming government regulations for the job losses that resulted from unconstrained exploitation. Now the public thinks the regulations that protect air, water and biodiversity are the problem, not resource depletion.
