In the basement working on a new song. Got lyrics, tempo and chords. Trying to suss out the key for my vocal. Put down an acoustic guitar track and pitch shifting it around to see what works. Then I’ll capo and re-track for the key I need. King of a gospel soul kinda vibe, but without the gospel religious thing. I guess it’s an oppressed, politically motivated secular piece. Got the new song finished… I think. I’ll listen tomorrow with fresh ears and see how it sounds. Tracks in the screenshot top to bottom are drums, a blank song structure track - to keep me sane, Danelectro baritone, Takamine acoustic track through EHX MEL9 on orchestra setting, cello lower octave, cello pitch shifted up an octave (both cello tracks are Dano baritone through EHX Mel9 on cello setting), Fender p-bass, vocal track, vocal track pitch shifted down an octave buried in the mix (Warren Huart’s trick), harmonica track and duplicate harmonica track pitch shifted down an octave. Got a blank dump track at the bottom for no apparent reason. I ended up putting some really subtle reverb on a few tracks and I kept all the track panning pretty basic. No radical hard left or right. #music #songwriting #guitar #recording #audio

It's hard enough getting my meter/emphasis to match in V1 and V2, but in my latest song the rhyme schemes absolutely do not match… and it's like… am I being lazy? Do I need to polish it until it "follows the rules"? Especially since I'm not, ya know, "prolific" enough to break the rules? Or is that just… my thing, and the song is what it is?

I definitely prefer being more loose with my rhymes to FORCING an awkward or lazy rhyme… but… when do I earn permission to just completely freewheel it? Where's the line between structure and playing with the structure and just "might as well have no structure"?
